Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has claimed he was left stunned by what he saw from Chelsea last night at Stamford Bridge.
He took to Twitter to state that the victory in the League Cup last night looked as if it could be a Premier League tie based on how even the match was.
Chelsea will have been hoping to have things their own way last night as they looked to continue the winning feeling at Stamford Bridge.
When they were 1-0 down moments before half-time, that feeling felt a long way away.
However, goals from Noni Madueke and Enzo Fernandez eased tension, and helped the Blues book their place in the next round.
While the game was not televised, it sounds like it was for the best for many Chelsea fans. They also avoided seeing Levi Colwill limp off.
Journalist stunned at Chelsea
In Kinsella’s quick review of the game, he claimed he was stunned at what he saw from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
He said: “You won’t believe me, but Wimbledon were absolutely brilliant and really scared Chelsea. I’m shocked at what I saw almost. I thought this would be a routine win, maybe a 4/5-0 to Chelsea. We’ve seen these matches so often against lower league teams in these cups. 63 places between them.
But when you looked at the match, it was almost like Premier League opposition. The way Chelsea played, they really struggled throughout. Wimbledon so well set up, really defensively disciplined, but also quality to pick moments and hurt Chelsea.
“Chelsea were struggling and it didn’t look like a goal was coming from anywhere. It could’ve been 1-0 Wimbledon at half-time, and they would have deserved it.”
The Blues will have to be leaps and bounds better if they are to beat Brighton at home in the next round of the competition.
