‘Working to make it happen’: Club captain admits his side are now trying to sign ‘world class’ Chelsea player

Lorenzo Pellegrini – captain of Roma – has now confirmed that the Italian side are working on a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

The 27-year-old made the comments when speaking to DAZN.

So, what did Lorenzo Pellegrini say about Romelu Lukaku? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Eternal City has emerged as a shock destination for the Belgian after talks between Chelsea and Juventus failed to materialise into any agreement.

Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a new striker, and Pellegrini has now confirmed that Roma are working on a deal to sign Lukaku – who Thomas Tuchel once called a “world class” player.

The Roma captain said: “I don’t know what Lukaku would bring, but there are those who are working to make it happen. When it will be done, then we’ll see what he can bring, otherwise it’s like talking about any player in the world.”

By the sounds of it, the Italy international is not too excited about the 30-year-old’s imminent move to Roma, although that comes as no surprise given the striker’s lack of popularity in Italy.

Juventus fans recently held up anti-Lukaku banners to protest against the Belgium international potentially joining their club, before invading the pitch to continue their protestations.

Details as Chelsea prepare to loan Lukaku to Roma

Despite Pellegrini making Roma’s interest public, he did not go into much detail.

Fortunately, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has.

The Italian journalist believes Roma are willing to pay a sizeable loan fee to take Lukaku for the 2023/24 campaign, worth around €5m (£4.3m).

However, Chelsea want more, so negotiations are ongoing.

Romano adds that Roma still have to convince Lukaku to join as well, so there is still quite a bit of work for the Italian giants to complete.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea attempt to remove the unwanted 30-year-old from Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
