When Tyrese Proctor’s mother learnt of the NBA Draft, she had a clear message for Jon Scheyer.

The 2024-25 season was one to remember for the Duke Blue Devils. Under Jon Scheyer’s leadership, Duke posted an impressive 35-4 record, capturing both the ACC regular season and tournament titles, and earning a spot in the NCAA Final Four.

Scheyer’s squad was loaded with talent, led by standout performances from Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Khaman Maluach, and Tyrese Proctor. Although next season’s roster will have a new look, Duke is expected to remain a powerhouse in college basketball.

Scheyer has proven himself to be a true player’s coach. Flagg and Knueppel frequently praised his leadership and the motivation he gave them to give their all on the court. Tyrese Proctor, who declared for the NBA Draft earlier in the day, also had a strong bond with his coach. His mother, Melissa Proctor, shared a heartfelt message on Friday night, writing, “So thankful for you Jon,” along with two blue heart emojis.

Proctor wrapped up the season averaging 12.4 points per game on 45.2% shooting. In the Final Four loss to Houston, he scored seven points in 37 minutes. While Duke is set to lose several key contributors, the team remains a serious contender for another Final Four run in 2025-26.

The Blue Devils, who have made 18 Final Four appearances and captured five national championships (the last in 2015), will welcome a new wave of talent this fall, headlined by top freshmen Cameron and Cayden Boozer. Still, it’ll be hard for anyone to replicate the impact of Cooper Flagg, who averaged 19.2 points per game and dropped 27 in the heartbreaking loss to Houston.
