Last Saturday in Frankfurt, Germany, there was an exhibition tournament, and Raymond van Barneveld was the winner. In the Gude Darts Open final, ‘Barney’ defeated world champion Luke Humphries in front of nearly 4,000 darts fans.
There were eight players in the field of participants. Each of the two pools of four participants was created out of them. In the group stage, Van Barneveld prevailed over Gabriel Clemens (3-1), John Henderson (3-0), and Oliver Müller (3-2). Henderson, the runner-up, moved on to the semifinals.
Luke Humphries defeated Fallon Sherrock (3-0), Dirk van Duijvenbode (3-2), and Joe Cullen (3-2) in the other group. After defeating Cullen (3-0) and Sherrock (3-1), Van Duijvenbode placed second in Group B.
Van Barneveld then defeated Van Duijvenbode 3-1 in an all-Dutch semifinal. Humphries defeated Henderson 3-0 to advance as the second semifinalist. After that, Van Barneveld defeated Humphries 3-1 in the championship match.
