What would Otega Oweh, a star for Kentucky, need to do to remain in the NBA Draft?

Kentucky is waiting on one final decision that could elevate its 2025–26 roster to national title contention whether Otega Oweh chooses to return to school or stay in the NBA Draft.

Oweh hasn’t appeared in most mock drafts, though one recently projected him as the 59th overall pick. That raises the question: what would convince him to remain in the draft?

When Oweh initially declared, most assumed he’d ultimately return to Lexington. But with no official word yet, some fans are growing uneasy.

It’s important to remember that Oweh stands to make significant money through NIL deals at Kentucky likely far more than he’d earn as a late second-round pick. Financially and developmentally, it wouldn’t be a wise move to risk landing near the bottom of the draft.

If Oweh begins rising significantly in draft projections, that’s when concern would be justified. But for now, it’s unlikely. He has clear potential but would benefit from another year of college to refine his game.

If he enters the draft now, he’s more likely headed for limited playing time in the G League rather than making an immediate NBA impact.

Until a final decision is made, fans will be on edge but realistically, returning to Kentucky is the smarter path for Oweh at this stage.
