Vanderbilt is finding traction with Travis Perry.

Former Kentucky guard Travis Perry unexpectedly entered the transfer portal just before it closed in late April.

Ole Miss initially emerged as the frontrunner, given head coach Chris Beard’s strong interest in Perry during his high school recruitment. However, Vanderbilt has recently gained momentum in the race.

On Friday, Robbie Weinstein of Vandy247 logged a crystal ball prediction in favor of Perry committing to Vanderbilt, where he’d play under new head coach Mark Byington. Perry, a rising sophomore, will have three years of eligibility remaining.

He also took an official visit to Maryland over the weekend. The Terrapins, now led by former Texas A\&M coach Buzz Williams, are reportedly high on Perry as well.

A four-star prospect and the No. 81 player in the nation coming out of high school, Perry originally chose Kentucky over Alabama, Western Kentucky, Cincinnati, and Ole Miss.

Should he commit to Vanderbilt, he’d be just a short two-hour drive from his hometown in Lyon County—a factor that could be tipping the scales in favor of the Commodores.
