Cooper Flagg Poised to Be No. 1 Pick After Stellar Duke Season and Viral Public Appearance

Cooper Flagg wrapped up an outstanding freshman year at Duke by averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game.

His performance earned him ACC Player of the Year, ACC Rookie of the Year, and National Player of the Year honors firmly establishing him as the consensus No. 1 overall pick in 2025 NBA mock drafts for months.

Ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, Flagg appeared at the AT&T Flagship Experience in Times Square, a promotional event celebrating rising stars with interactive activities and meet-and-greets. He later shared a post on Instagram that read: “They say it takes a village. Mine showed out at the Flaggship Experience @att,” featuring photos with family, former Duke teammate Khaman Maluach, and TikTok personality The Rizzler.

However, the buzz wasn’t just about the event fans were quick to notice Flagg debuting a new goatee, sparking plenty of commentary online.

* “Cooper with facial hair 😯 league is cooked genuinely,” one fan wrote.

* “That peach fuzz came in real fast,” another joked.

* “When did lil bro grow facial hair???” asked a surprised commenter.

* “We love you Cooper, just please shave the goatee before tomorrow!!” pleaded another.

* “goatee Coop,” one fan simply replied.

Flagg is widely expected to be drafted No. 1 overall by the Dallas Mavericks, who pulled off a surprising lottery win despite just a 1.8% chance of landing the top pick.

The 79th NBA Draft takes place Wednesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where Flagg’s future will officially be decided.
