Following a determined recruiting effort, UNC basketball has landed the frontcourt piece it was aiming for
On Friday afternoon, Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar announced his commitment to North Carolina, giving the Tar Heels a much-needed boost in the paint. The 7-foot Estonian big man arrives in Chapel Hill with two years of eligibility remaining.
Veesaar entered the transfer portal on March 31, and UNC quickly emerged as a top suitor. The coaching staff made getting him on campus a priority ahead of the NCAA recruiting dead period—a clear sign of their strong interest, which Veesaar reciprocated.
Over two seasons at Arizona, Veesaar showed steady growth. Despite starting only five games as a sophomore, he averaged 9.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game. Known for his ability to stretch the floor, he shot 32.7% from three (16-for-49) last season and excelled in pick-and-roll situations, making him a versatile option at center.

With a pressing need for size and mobility in the frontcourt, UNC viewed Veesaar as a top priority in the portal—and now they’ve landed him. His commitment fills a critical hole in the lineup and marks a significant win for Hubert Davis and his staff. While the search for a point guard continues, this addition gives the Tar Heels a strong foundation as they build toward the 2025–26 season.
