Tyrese Proctor Receives a Strong Message from Jon Scheyer Following the NBA Draft Announcement

Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils ended their 2024-25 season in heartbreaking fashion, falling just short of a national title.

Despite fielding one of the most talented rosters in the country — led by Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, and Tyrese Proctor — Duke couldn’t finish the job. Their season came to a crushing end with a narrow 70-67 loss to Houston in the Final Four, following wins over Mount Saint Mary’s, Baylor, Arizona, and Alabama.

To make matters worse, the Blue Devils took another hit after the tournament when veteran guard Tyrese Proctor officially declared for the NBA Draft following three years in Durham.

Head coach Jon Scheyer responded to Proctor’s announcement with a heartfelt message, reflecting on the guard’s growth and contributions:
“It’s been an incredible ride with Tyrese Proctor,” Scheyer said. “It’s not just about what he’s done this past season — it’s the journey over these last three years. The growth he’s shown, the wins he’s helped deliver… I couldn’t be prouder of Tyrese. Now, I’m thrilled to see him take the next step and chase his NBA dream.”

Proctor leaves Duke as one of the ACC’s top two-way players, finishing his final season averaging 12.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

Now, Scheyer and his coaching staff face the challenge of reloading the roster. In addition to Proctor, they’re losing Kon Knueppel — who declared for the draft after an impressive freshman year — and are expected to see Cooper Flagg head to the NBA as the projected No. 1 overall pick.
