Todd Boehly spoke to 45-year-old manager on private jet for a new role in Chelsea

Chelsea were interested in hiring Feyenoord manager Arne Slot before they appointed Mauricio Pochettino.

That is according to a report from Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad.

It claims that Chelsea held talks with Arne Slot and that co-owner Todd Boehly even picked up the 45-year-old by private jet.

However, the Blues could not convince Slot to move to Stamford Bridge and ended up hiring Mauricio Pochettino instead.

The Argentine’s first season in west London is not exactly going to plan, with his side currently sitting outside the top four, but there are still a lot of games left in the campaign.

Todd Boehly can still be pleased with Mauricio Pochettino appointment

Chelsea are not where Boehly wants them to be, while Pochettino may not have been his first choice for the manager position, but the American can still be satisfied with his arrival.

Pochettino is an excellent coach who knows the Premier League well and is great at developing young players.

You only have to look at his work at Tottenham Hotspur with the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.

And at Chelsea, you can already see him getting the best out of the young talent he has. Cole Palmer, for example, has been amazing for the Blues.

The 21-year-old has converted all of his penalties for Chelsea, including one against his former club Manchester City, and has even surprised former Blues player Jody Morris with his performances.

If he cannot, then Boehly may start to have some regrets about Slot and the other managers the club spoke to after Graham Potter’s sacking
