Bayern Munich have a ‘secret plan’ to potentially hijack Fabinho’s move from Liverpool to Al Ittihad.
Ever since the back end of last week, Fabinho has looked pretty certain to leave Anfield for Saudi Arabia this summer. However, although the transfer has looked imminent for a while, nothing has been officially announced just yet.
As a result, journalist Florian Plettenberg has told Sky Germany that Bayern are ready to make their own play for the Brazilian.
There’s a secret plan behind it,” says the journalist. “He also fits into Thomas Tuchel’s physical profile.
“Fabinho is basically on the verge of a move to Al-Ittihad in the desert and Liverpool would like to finalise that this weekend.
If this deal should somehow fail – which can happen – then the Bavarians intend to get in touch. He’s not the top target now. But if he washes up on the market again and doesn’t move to the desert, Bayern would try to intervene again.”
Bayern plotting Fabinho hijack
Whether it’s to Bayern or to Al Ittihad, it’s clear that Fabinho’s Liverpool career is coming to an end. Where he goes next will be largely immaterial to many
From out point of view though, we’d really like to see the 29-year-old continue on in Europe. Fabinho has been terrific for the majority of his Reds career and it would fascinating to see him move to another of the continent’s elite clubs.
Of course, a move to Saudi Arabia will appeal to the Brazilian because of the money involved. But from a sporting point of view, it would be refreshing to see a player choose ambition over cash.
One caveat to that could be that Bayern are unlikely to want to pay £40m for Fabinho. That’s the fee Al Ittihad are supposedly offering for the former Monaco man. Given it’s not too far off the £44m they paid for him five years ago, that looks like a good deal for Liverpool.
But with a monster move for Harry Kane in the offing, it’s unlikely that German champions would be happy to match it.
So, say they do get in Fabinho’s ear and convince him to snub Jeddah for Bavaria, the Reds could end up getting a smaller windfall.
As they attempt to replace the Brazil international, that would obviously be less appeal. Until Fabinho’s move is all sealed though, we’ll have to keep an eye out for Bayern.
