Chelsea have the rarity of playing in midweek this week, just three days after beating Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side fought hard to get all three points against Roberto De Zerbi’s side after Conor Gallagher got himself sent off quite early on for two bookable offences.
Now on Wednesday evening they have to travel up to Old Trafford to face a team who are really struggling right now, but still present in tough opponent in the shape of Manchester United.
Chelsea are hoping to have the huge boost of summer signing Christopher Nkunku returning to the squad for the first time since he got injured in a pre-season match, that is at least according to journalist Simon Phillips, writing on his Substack today.
“A top source has just been in touch and once again there is hope Christopher Nkunku will make the squad on Wednesday, depending on how he comes through the next couple of training sessions,” Phillips wrote on his live blog today.
Nkunku is still yet to kick a ball competitively for his new team, so it will be a boost for him just to be back on the bench this week and to be eased in carefully as expected.
