The Lakers Bench Gets a Duke Basketball Product

Justin Robinson, a two-year Blue Devil employee and former five-year Duke basketball player, has joined Los Angeles.

Three and a half years after the end of his fifth season as a Blue Devil forward, Justin Robinson, son of NBA legend and former No. 1 overall draft pick David Robinson, joined Jon Scheyer’s staff as the director of player development for Duke basketball in November 2023.

However, as of this week, Robinson, 28, is employed by JJ Redick, the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, who is also a former Duke player. The following post from the Blue Devils’ social media team congratulated the alum, who started playing as a walk-on in 2015–16 under Mike Krzyzewski’s

Robinson saved his finest college game for his final game wearing the Blue Devil uniform in 2019–20 as captain of Duke basketball. The product of San Antonio, Texas, finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four blocks in that Senior Night performance, which helped the team defeat archrival UNC 89-76 at home.
Prior to rejoining Jon Scheyer’s staff in Durham, Justin Robinson was an ABA League player for Mornar Bar in Montenegro. JJ Redick led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 50-32 regular season record in his debut season as a coach at any level outside of youth league competition. In the NBA Playoffs’ opening round, they were defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
