The highest level’: BBC pundit predicts 21-year-old Chelsea player could be worth £170m in a few years

Former Premier League defender Stephen Warnock thinks Moises Caicedo could be worth £170m in the future.

Chelsea recently signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £115m deal and Warnock believes his value could increase even further.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the pundit said: “What’s Caicedo going to be worth after five years? After five years of playing at Chelsea, at the highest level, he could be worth £170m. You just don’t know how inflation’s going to hit.”

Chelsea needed to sign a midfielder like Caicedo this summer after selling the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The Blues have also brought in Romeo Lavia from Southampton to strengthen their engine room, announcing his arrival yesterday.

Will Moises Caicedo’s value be £170m one day?

With the direction the transfer market is heading in, it does not seem impossible. The Ecuadorian cost over £100m in this window, while Chelsea also spent a similar amount of money on his team-mate Enzo Fernandez.

Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham have moved for gigantic fees as well, so the benchmark has been set for top midfielders.

If Caicedo gets any better then, which he should do given that he is still just 21 years of age, perhaps the Blues could make some serious profit on him in the future.

Should the Blues decide they want to keep hold of the Ecuador international, however, he is going to find it hard to secure a transfer away from Stamford Bridge, even if a club is willing to pay more than what Chelsea bought him for.

Caicedo is on a very long contract, so his current employers are unlikely to find themselves in a position where they are under pressure to sell their asset. But having signed such a deal, Caicedo must envision himself being in west London for most of his career.
