UNC Basketball Brings in Veteran Guard Jaydon Young from Virginia Tech

UNC has landed a commitment from former Virginia Tech guard Jaydon Young, who took a major step forward during his sophomore campaign.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Goldsboro, N.C., native officially joined the Tar Heels on Friday, bringing two years of ACC experience to Chapel Hill.

Originally a three-star recruit out of Greensboro Day School in the Class of 2023, Young had a limited role in his freshman year, averaging 1.8 points in 8.5 minutes over 26 games. But he carved out a bigger role last season, appearing in all 32 games with 10 starts and posting averages of 8.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. Despite those numbers, he struggled with shooting efficiency, hitting just 34.7 percent from the field and 29.6 percent from three. Virginia Tech finished the year 13-19.

According to 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings, Young is rated No. 354 overall and No. 84 among shooting guards. His addition marks the fifth player in UNC’s 2025 transfer class, which now ranks No. 16 nationally and second in the ACC, behind only Louisville.
