THE ALL-TIME MOST INFLUENTIAL PLAYER, BJORN BORG, INSISTS PAT CASH
The legendary Australian tennis player Pat Cash claimed that Bjorn Borg was the most influential tennis player ever.
The 60-year-old Swede won 11 Grand Slams during his playing career, six fewer than modern-day great Roger Federer and one fewer than recently deposed No. 1 Novak Djokoivc. However, the Eurosport analyst believes his overall performance had a significant impact on the sport.
Following a Champions Cup match in Seoul, Cash, who won Wimbledon in 1987, told the Korea Times that Borg’s legacy has been cemented. (BJORN) BORG WAS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPACTFUL PLAYER OF ALL TIME. “He revolutionized tennis with his double-handed backhand, hitting more topspins than anyone before him. He made few mistakes and was one of the fastest players of all time. Cash believes that Rafa Nadal’s “ferocious forehand and backhand and such intensity” have elevated the game to a new level.
OUR OPINION Who are we to argue with one of the best commentators on Eurosport? Cash, a smart and perceptive man, uses precise language when he states that Bjorn’s “influence” on the game was what made it so great. It’s obvious that his technical prowess, combined with Nadal’s when he made his big debut, elevated the sport to a new level. It’s a pity the reporter didn’t ask him who he believes the greatest player of all time.
