Snooker player sobbed “in floods of tears” in front of his wife as he considered his lowest point.

After a decline in his career, Ford has recently found his best form again. The prolific scorer made it to two ranking event finals in 2023, which enabled him achieve a career-high world ranking and somewhat realize his full potential.

However, Ford has recently disclosed that his struggle with loneliness as an older player stems from overcoming adversity during the pandemic. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the Welsh Open in 2021 by defeating Kyren Wilson and Jack Lisowski, however he was unable to concentrate on the competition.

Before, I was unable to discuss it too much. Ford said on the Talking Snooker podcast, “I recall that was my lowest point. After two games with them, I recall Kyren saying, “Well played,” to which I replied, “I don’t even want to be here, I don’t want to be playing in this.”

“It was a lockdown situation, but I had no idea why I was experiencing it or what was happening. I can still picture me sobbing uncontrollably in the hotel room and telling my wife, “I don’t want to be here.” And when I said I didn’t want to be here, I didn’t mean Wales. Time was difficult.

He attributed his improved snooker performances to mentality coach Sabrina Francis’s efforts. Ford talked about how, unlike before, he no longer gets “the hump” after missing a shot and it won’t hinder his next try.
