Despite Ryan Gravenberch’s plot deepening in the midst of Liverpool transfer interest, Sadio Mane wins the title with Bayern Munich.
Sadio Mane likely had greater league championship dreams when he moved from Liverpool to Bayern Munich last summer. Not though, like this.
The Senegalese player nearly led the Reds to an unprecedented quadruple last season, but he ultimately decided to end his career at Anfield after winning every major award available to him, including a domestic cup double. He is without a doubt a Liverpool icon with 120 goals in 269 games.
Bayern Munich needed a headline acquisition to replace the prolific Pole after waving off a club legend in Robert Lewandowski for Barcelona. That man had a mane.
The attacker would at least get off to a good start, scoring in both his first DFL-Super Cup game against RB Leipzig and his first Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt. In his first six games for Bayern, he would score five goals, and in his first 20 games, he would score eleven.
Yet as the World Cup drew near, he was already beginning to notice that Bayern struggled to fit him into their side, forcing him to come in and out of the starting XI. Although he had primarily played as an explosive left winger for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp had reinvented him as a central forward during his final months at Anfield. However, when he was used in any position in Bavaria, he appeared to be a square peg in a round hole.
If the Reds really want to include Gravenberch in their midfield makeover this summer, they might as well have Bayern on speed dial at this point. If ‘not for sale’ really means not for sale, only time will tell.
So with the Bundesliga season over, Mane, Bellingham, and Gravenberch all have busy summers ahead of them and can begin to think about their futures. For very different reasons, they are surrounded by uncertainty, and the trio’s future may be hinted at by that final day.
While not as dramatic as those final-day title-winning scenes in Germany, set to dominate the upcoming close-season transfer speculation, those who support Liverpool will still be watching on with great interest to see what happens next.
