Romano says Chelsea secure €16m signing to ride the bench behind €25m signing

Fabrizio Romano has Tweeted out news of another incoming transfer to Chelsea.

Nizaar Kinsella had written earlier today about the deal for Djordje Petrovic getting closer, and now Fabrizio Romano has swooped in with the details on the move.

The New England Revolution goalkeeper will join the Blues for €16m, signing a 7 year deal with a club option to add an 8th. He’s been one of the top stoppers in the MLS for a while, and finally gets his chance to break Europe.

Romano noted in a previous Tweet that the Serb is going to “compete” with Robert Sanchez, who was bought for £25m earlier this month. It seems unlikely the Premier League experienced Sanchez is dropped anytime soon, unless things go disastrously wrong.

Petrovic will fly in tomorrow and have his medical tests and complete the signing in person on Wednesday. We would imagine a Friday night game comes too soon for him to be in the squad – but who knows, given he’s a goalkeeper.
