Reliable transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Nottingham Forest received no bids for Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi in the last transfer window.
There were widespread reports that Chelsea made a last-ditch effort to sign the Nigerian forward few days before the close of the summer transfer window.
The former Liverpool striker bagged six goals in his last four games for Nottingham Forest last season, two of which were scored against Chelsea.
The 26-year-old also registered an assist in Forest’s 1-0 win over the Blues before the international break and his performances would have convinced the club’s hierarchy to acquire his services.
Romano in his daily briefing for CaughtOffside disclosed that no offer was submitted for the Nigerian striker before the closure of the last transfer window.
“I’m not aware of any club being involved in any kind of concrete talks for Taiwo Awoniyi at this stage, but for sure he’s appreciated by the people at Nottingham Forest,” Romano wrote.
“He’s enjoying some superb form at the club at the moment, he’s obviously a very good player and they believe that he still has the potential to get better and better in the near future.
“So an exciting player with a good future ahead, but Forest didn’t receive any bids for his services in August as far as I’ve been made aware.”
Awoniyi has begun the season in a high flying form, registering a goal contribution in all his four Premier League appearances so far.
As a result of his form, the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month for August.
