TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could sign Romelu Lukaku on loan before the transfer window closes.
Although some reliable sources such as Alasdair Gold have denied reports that Tottenham could turn to Lukaku as Harry Kane’s replacement, Italian publications continue to talk up the chances of Spurs swooping for the Belgian.
CalcioMercato claimed over the weekend that Spurs had made contact with the entourage of the 30-year-old, who is allegedly valued at €45m (£38.3m) by Chelsea.
Potential loan move for Lukaku at Tottenham
TMW have now become the latest publication to report on Tottenham’s interest in Lukaku, stating that the former Inter star is one of three names on the Lilywhites’ shortlist alongside Fularin Balogun and Jonathan David.
It is explained that with deals for the Arsenal and Lille stars currently proving tricky, Spurs could turn their attention to the Chelsea star in the ‘last few days’ of the window.
However, it is revealed that Tottenham do not want to buy Lukaku as they are only willing to invest a big transfer fee in a younger player.
The outlet adds that the door might be ‘opened soon’ for Spurs to sign the centre-forward on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
Spurs Web Opinion
While Lukaku is certainly not of the quality needed to replace Kane, there would be little risk involved in signing the Belgian on a loan deal. However, I suspect Tottenham are only eyeing the Chelsea man as an emergency option if a deal for their top three or four targets does not materialise.
