Liverpool are pushing on with their attempts to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia and could even now be ahead of the rest in the race to do so.
Lavia is one of the top midfield targets for a number of clubs this summer. The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are all believed to have the youngster high on their lists.
But while plenty of interest is there, The Independent has claimed that it is actually Liverpool who have moved ahead of the chasing pack when it comes to signing the midfielder.
The Independent says that while Arsenal were favourites intially for Lavia, it is now the Reds who have moved in front.
Liverpool are pushing for a new midfielder after allowing both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to leave for Saudi Arabia.
It’s claimed in the same report that the Reds are now planning on making an improved bid for Lavia. Southampton are thought to be seeking around £50m and have, so far, been resolute in their stance.
As we know, Chelsea are also keen on signing Lavia. The Blues have cleared the decks a bit recently and are now in a position to make some more signings.
RTK’s View: Liverpool have to get Lavia over the line
With Fabinho and Henderson on their way, it’s now imperative that the Reds bring a new face in in the middle of the park.
There is a reason why Romeo Lavia is so highly-sought after and Liverpool have got to make sure they get this one done.
Lavia is a quality young player and even Jose Enrique insisted that under Klopp, he could go on to be world class.
In terms of the players out there right now who Liverpool can realistically get, Lavia is one. And as it stands, the Reds have to make sure they’re the club he chooses over everyone else.
