Recruiting at Duke: Kara Lawson Makes Another Impact

Just days after landing a commitment from four-star center Taylor Sofilkanich for the 2026 class, Duke head coach Kara Lawson secured another big win on the recruiting trail. On Sunday, five-star point guard Sanai Green of Long Island Lutheran committed to the Blue Devils.

Green, a 6-foot floor general, chose Duke over offers from UNC, USC, Purdue, and several others, making her a significant pickup for the program.

While it’s tough to predict exactly how Duke’s 2026 roster will take shape—especially with the ever-changing landscape of the transfer portal—bringing in high-level talents like Green and Sofilkanich gives the Blue Devils a strong foundation moving forward.

Duke’s Jon Scheyer Receives Significant Recruiting Update on Four-Star Prospect

Duke heads into the offseason following an impressive 35-4 (19-1 ACC) season that ended with a Final Four appearance under fourth-year head coach Jon Scheyer.

Despite losing all five starters from that squad, the Blue Devils are reloading with one of the top 2025 recruiting classes, keeping them firmly in the mix for title contention in 2025-26.

Four-star power forward Sebastian Wilkins from Brewster Academy, ranked No. 17 in ESPN’s Top 100 for the 2026 class, is scheduled to make his official visit to Duke on Monday, according to 247Sports’ Sam Kayser. His recruitment has already included visits to Maryland and Texas A\&M, with other offers from Alabama, Florida State, Iowa, and Boston College, among others.

During the 2023-24 season with Brewster Academy’s national team, Wilkins averaged 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game in 22.5 minutes, per MaxPreps. The 6’8″, 210-pound forward also earned MVP honors in Brewster’s January win over Oak Hill Academy with a standout 22-point, 8-rebound effort.

Ranked No. 1 in New Hampshire and the No. 7 power forward nationally by 247Sports, Wilkins represents a key target for Duke as they look to maintain elite status. The Blue Devils won both the ACC regular season and tournament titles last season, earning a No. 1 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament and advancing to the Final Four with wins over Mount St. Mary’s, Baylor, Arizona, and Alabama before falling to Houston.

With top talents like Cooper Flagg, Khaman Maluach, and Kon Knueppel declaring for the NBA Draft, Wilkins’ upcoming visit could play a pivotal role in Duke’s efforts to build another championship-caliber roster.
