Premier League target is more appealing to Liverpool as Klopp gears up to compete with three for the £60 million star.

Liverpool is reportedly intensifying its pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as they try to expand their group of center-halves.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are just two of the fantastic signings that Jurgen Klopp’s team has made thus far.

Jurgen Klopp is now concentrating on bringing a defender to the club as Liverpool appears to be backing out of a deal to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

Liverpool was the team that finished in the top five that allowed the most goals in the league previous season with 47.

Given this, it makes reasonable that they would want to improve their defensive capabilities.

Along with Klopp’s side, the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old.

Guehi would be an excellent addition to any of those sides, although Palace are said to value him ‘in excess of £60m’ which could put some sides off.

The defender has had two solid seasons at Selhurst Park and he is a fully-fledged England international which will add to his price tag.

From Crystal Palace’s point of view, they are in no rush to sell one of their prized assets. He is under contract until 2026 and so they are in a strong position to dictate his value.

Guehi has been a long-term target for Liverpool, but it remains to be seen if they are willing to spend £60m on the defender.

Roy Hodgson has been impressed with the 22-year-old since being back at the club as he admitted the defender is still improving.

“Just in general terms he looks like a centre-back who has got a lot of qualities – he’s got pace, he understands and likes to defend,” Hodgson told reporters in April.

“He is good on the ball. If you’re ticking boxes of what I like my centre-back to look like, he ticks so many boxes. Now it is up to him, with the help he’ll get from the guys around him, to keep building on that.

“His first couple of seasons at Crystal Palace have been a massive success. He’s got to keep that going and hope to even keep adding a little bit more each year.”
