Power Surge: Teonni Key Leads Loaded Kentucky Frontcourt in 2025-26 WBB Season

As Kentucky Women’s Basketball gears up for a new era under head coach Kenny Brooks, the Wildcats’ power forward spot looks not only locked down, but brimming with depth and potential. This marks the fourth installment of KSR’s 2025-26 position preview series, and few roles feel more secure  or more promising  than what’s happening at the four.

At the center of that optimism? Senior forward Teonni Key.

After transferring from North Carolina and finding new life in Lexington, Key blossomed into one of the most dynamic forwards in the SEC last season. She started all 31 games and averaged 11.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and a staggering 1.7 blocks per game. Those numbers were a massive leap from her previous seasons, and a clear sign she had finally shaken off the injury bug that once derailed her trajectory as a top-10 recruit out of high school.

Now entering her senior year, Key isn’t just the presumed starter at power forward  she’s a cornerstone for this Kentucky team. With her 6-foot-4 frame, refined post skills, and elite shot-blocking ability, she brings a steady presence on both ends of the court. Her toughness, experience, and leadership will be crucial as the Wildcats push toward their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2022.

But Kentucky’s strength at power forward doesn’t stop with Key.

Amelia Hassett, who saw most of her minutes at the small forward position last season, will slide into her more natural role at the four. A stretch-forward with excellent instincts and defensive versatility, Hassett could flourish in a more comfortable spot. Expect her to be one of the first players off the bench, offering Kenny Brooks a valuable option who can stretch the floor, crash the glass, and guard multiple positions.

Then there’s Kaelyn Carroll, one of the most intriguing developmental pieces on the roster. Once viewed as a perimeter-oriented wing, Carroll has had a growth spurt that’s taken her to nearly 6-foot-5. With added size and mobility, she’s now a legitimate post presence who can give Kentucky meaningful minutes at power forward  especially in matchups that call for length and rim protection.

Together, Key, Hassett, and Carroll form a trio that gives Kentucky one of the most balanced and talented power forward rotations in the country. Whether it’s Key anchoring the starting lineup or the younger forwards coming in to spell her, this unit has the tools to control the paint, alter shots, and dominate the boards on any given night.

In short, the power forward position is in great hands and Kentucky fans have every reason to believe that this frontcourt will be a driving force behind the team’s resurgence.

Stay tuned for the final installment of our 2025-26 WBB Position Preview, as we break down the anchor of Kentucky’s defense: the center spot.
