Sunday afternoon sees Wolves return to Premier League action against Sheffield United, a match that analyst Paul Merson concedes could provide a “problem” for Gary O’Neil’s team.
Gary O’Neil’s team will be looking to repeat their triumphs from last weekend’s Premier League matchup against Spurs when Sheffield United visits Molineux on Sunday.
The Old Gold’s performance at home has declined, as they have lost their last two games in front of their supporters, despite their impressive back-to-back away victories in the capital.
The hosts could have a strong chance to start winning at home against Chris Wilder’s bottom-of-the-table team, but analyst Paul Merson has hinted that the match won’t be as simple as it looks on paper.
What Paul Merson foresaw before Wolves’ matchup with Sheffield United
Merson praised Wolves’ recent performances against Chelsea and Spurs in his essay for Sportskeeda, but he was also quick to point out a major issue with O’Neil’s team.
Although Wolves has been outstanding lately, they are still a very erratic squad. They have won against Brentford, but they have also defeated Chelsea and Tottenham.
“The issue with Wolves is that they don’t perform well under pressure to win.”
Merson picked the home team to defeat the Blades 3-1, but only after they overcame their patchy performance in previous games.
Although the Old Gold have won spectacularly this season against teams that are below them in the rankings, such as Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, and Brentford, they have also lost to teams like Chelsea, Spurs, and Manchester City.
With only three points separating 11th and 7th place in the standings, O’Neil’s team may be fighting for a possible high of a European finish now that survival is a non-issue.
