On the verge’: Fabrizio Romano has transfer update for Liverpool fans overnight

Fabrizio Romano last night reported that Jordan Henderson’s move to Al-Ettifaq is close to being sealed, with an announcement expected this week.

Taking to Twitter overnight, the Italian journalist revealed that the 33-year-old will soon become the latest European player to make the move to the Saudi Pro League, joining Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.

Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia is without question one of the most surprising deals of the entire summer, with Liverpool set to recoup £12m for the England international when all is said and done.

The midfielder won’t be the only Liverpool star to make the move to the Middle East either, with Fabinho also set to sign for Saudi Arabia side Al-Ittihad once a delay in the transfer process has been ironed out.

Yet after this latest update from Romano, it now looks likely that Henderson’s move to Al-Ettifaq will be completed first, with the midfielder likely to fly out to Saudi Arabia in the next 24 hours to complete the transfer.

Liverpool’s sale of Henderson is unexpected yet convenient for the Reds, with Jurgen Klopp’s side now having some funds in their budget to really start their summer spending and to complete their midfield rebuild.

As we know, the Anfield side are interested in Southampton wonderkid Romeo Lavia with other targets also on Liverpool’s watchlist. And Henderson’s move to Al-Ettifaq will help fund the remainder of the window.

With Fabinho’s £40m move also expected to be finalised this week, there will be even more room in the budget to spend big on new players, with Henderson’s replacement a key transfer now for LIverpool.
