Nick Pope, a goalkeeper for Newcastle United, will miss the final game of the season for both his club and the England team.
Following a scoreless draw with Leicester City, the Magpies have locked themselves a top-four spot in the Premier League.
To attempt and secure third place on the final day of the season, they play Chelsea, although Pope won’t be participating as he is having surgery for a hand injury.
Pope had delayed the treatment until this term, when he would no longer be required by his club team.
Late in their game against Leicester, he made a key save that kept them in the top four.
Next season, Newcastle will compete in the Champions League, and Pope is expected to stay there.
