With satisfaction, Naby Keita has reflected on his time at Liverpool and praised the team and its supporters, calling them “very special” as he departs after five injury-plagued years.
Keita moved to Anfield from RB Leipzig in 2017 thanks to a club-record transfer, but the Guinean will now leave at the conclusion of his contract.
There was no extension on offer to the player who inherited Steven Gerrard’s No. 8 shirt, having only started 77 games over five years, with injuries blighting his spell.
Nevertheless, Keita has looked back on his time on Merseyside fondly, paying tribute to Liverpool in a post on Instagram on Tuesday.
Playing for this unique club has been an amazing experience and time! I will always be grateful and glad to have been a part of so many wonderful experiences.
“Wishing my teammates, coaches, and staff luck for the foreseeable future.
“I will always remember my Scouse people. We’ll talk soon. I’m Naby Lad.
Keita’s goodbye letter followed a subdued conclusion to his final season, in which he was substituted at halftime of Crystal Palace’s 0-0 tie in his final outing.
An ongoing injury saw him make the bench just once in the final 16 games, and there was a sheepishness as he received a guard of honour at Anfield earlier this month .
Keita was definitely a well-liked teammate, but Jurgen Klopp has maintained that he was a crucial figure in his successful tenure with the club.
Virgil van dijk, Jordan Henderson, kosta Tismikas , Adrian and xherdan shaqiri were among those to reply to his message, along with Andy Robertson
“Gonna miss slapping your head Naby!” came the left-back’s priceless response
