Liverpool are reportedly more likely to move for Cheick Doucoure than Joao Palhinha, with both players wanted by the Anfield side.
According to Neil Jones, the Crystal Palace midfielder’s age, profile and overall financial package could make the Mali international a more realistic transfer target than Palhinha, who is older and could cost more this summer.
90min recently claimed that Fulham want as much as £60m for the Portuguese international, a fee that seems quite high given that the midfielder is 28-years-old and has had just one season in the Premier League.
Whilst Doucoure is just as experienced in England, at 23 the midfielder represents more value in the market with the former RC Lens star yet to even hit his full potential, something that could be realised at Liverpool.
As a result, the Palace midfielder could be targeted over Palhinha, with Jones saying: “Joao Palhinha and Cheick Doucoure have been linked, and of those two I think the latter is far likelier.”
Doucoure is four or five years younger. So given his age and the money sort of money that would be required for these players, I think he clearly looks like a more realistic target.”
Doucoure would be a more sensible signing for Liverpool than Palhinha
Doucoure impressed in his first year in the Premier League even if his performances weren’t as eyecatching as Palhinha, yet when everything is taken into account, the midfielder would be the more sensible signing for Liverpool.
At 23, the Palace dynamo has plenty of years ahead of him to further his game and to become a world-class force in the Premier League, something that Doucoure can achieve at Liverpool.
Moreover, the Reds will get more value from Doucoure than if they sign Palhinha, who could realistically only be a good purchase for Liverpool for two to three seasons maximum.
