UNC Asheville Adds Mike Moses Jr. to Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — UNC Asheville Women’s Basketball has announced the addition of Mike Moses Jr. as its newest assistant coach, head coach Tynesha Lewis revealed on Wednesday, June 18.
Moses brings a wealth of experience and strong recruiting ties to the Bulldogs, joining the program after a stint at Division II Winston-Salem State.
“Mike Moses, Jr. is an outstanding addition to our staff,” said Coach Lewis. “In today’s dynamic basketball landscape, it’s essential to have someone with deep recruiting relationships and proven Division I experience.”
Before his time at Winston-Salem State, Moses spent two seasons at North Carolina A&T, where he served as recruiting coordinator. There, he played a crucial role in developing the Aggies’ guard play, mentoring standouts Jordyn Dorsey and Malia Bracone—both of whom earned All-Conference honors in 2024. His coaching contributed to North Carolina A&T’s WNIT Sweet 16 run that season.
Off the court, Moses was instrumental in building a highly regarded 2024 recruiting class, thanks to his eye for talent, strong relationships, and alignment with program goals.
Before his tenure at NC A&T, Moses served as the assistant coach and recruiting director at Western Kentucky University, overseeing all on-campus visits for recruits.
He also made a name for himself as a top high school coach at St. Paul’s High School in North Carolina. Over five seasons, he led the Bulldogs to a 97-24 record, including a dominant 67-3 run with three conference titles in his final three years. He earned Robeson County Coach of the Year honors three times and was twice named the Three Rivers Conference 2A Coach of the Year.
Moses’s résumé also includes assistant coaching experience with the Fayetteville State men’s basketball team from 2009 to 2015, where he also played collegiately and earned a degree in education in 2010.
He has also coached at the highest levels of AAU basketball, guiding the Carolina Flames to a Final Four appearance at the Nike Nationals in the prestigious Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL).
“I’m thrilled to be part of the UNC Asheville program under Coach Lewis,” said Moses. “I believe in her vision and am honored to contribute to the future of this team.”
Basketball is a family affair for Moses—his father played at Florida and St. John’s, helping lead the Red Storm to the Final Four in 1985, and later coached at programs like Maine, Xavier, Delaware, and Rutgers.
Moses joins a growing staff poised to elevate the UNC Asheville women’s basketball program into its next era of success.
