Mauricio Pochettino reveals controversial plan for Christopher Nkunku as Chelsea take huge risk

Following his impressive performance in the Bundesliga, Christopher Nkunku is anticipated to elevate Chelsea’s frontline next season.‎

The French international’s £53 million release clause, which takes effect this summer, is reportedly already paid by Chelsea. Nkunku is interested in moving to Stamford Bridge, according to football.london, and he was pleased with how the Blues handled his transfer.

The Frenchman has played a variety of positions at the Red Bull Arena recently, including center-forward, offensive midfielder, and even winger. Nkunku’s adaptability in the final third is viewed as a big asset on the one hand, but other people worry that he is “position-less” and requires freedom to move.

He was informed in an earlier interview with Football Manager that 28% of FM players use him as an attacking midfielder. Nkunku responded, when questioned about the statistic, “I think that’s a position that suits me well. Behind a striker and close to the goal. That nicely sums up who I am as a gamer, thus I enjoy playing this part every time.

While he could be anticipating playing a supporting role for Chelsea, Pochettino has other plans for him. The Blues are ‘determined’, according to The Guardian, to not rush their quest for an orthodox striker this summer and they think Nkunku can fill the role.

According to the article, the team can all contribute goals, but that hasn’t exactly happened with Kai Havertz manning the line. Of course, Pochettino’s ideas will differ from those of Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, and Thomas Tuchel.

Nkunku will nonetheless join Chelsea this summer, RB Leipzig’s sporting director Max Eberl announced in January. The Frenchman’s presence has not yet been formally announced by the residents of west London.

“The signs are very, very clear that he’s moving to Chelsea,” Eberl said to BILD.
