After more than a year on the sidelines, Liverpool’s Kaide Gordon might shortly resume full training.
As Kaide Gordon ramps up his recovery to full fitness in pre-season, Liverpool is hoping that his injury ordeal is coming to a conclusion.
Gordon, who made a stunning first-team debut for the Reds last season, hasn’t played at any level since Leeds United’s 3-0 defeat in the Premier League 2 16 months ago.
The 18-year-old winger has been undergoing specialized training for some time due to a pelvic issue brought on by his physical development.
Last month, Gordon ran on the field at the AXA Training Center. He has also begun hesitant ball work. And although there is no estimated time of arrival, the Reds think the player is considerably nearer to starting team training.
According to U21 manager Barry Lewtas, certain types of injuries, particularly with younger lads who are growing, are challenging. It’s not like breaking a bone, then waiting for the bone to heal before continuing to crack.
Unfortunately for Kaide, some of these ailments are more complicated than others. Kaide is now taller and more substantial than he was when he last played, and it has been related to his growth.
We always knew not to set a deadline since we knew it might take a while and we didn’t want to raise his expectations too much. We also wanted to maintain him in the appropriate state of mind. He is a player who has already had an influence on the first team, so doing so won’t raise expectations for anyone else.
“We’ll see how he goes. He’s been running around the pitch a little bit more.”
Gordon traveled to Austria for the preseason training camp last summer and later to Dubai for the midseason warm-weather camp during the World Cup break as part of Liverpool’s efforts to keep him on the senior team.
