Chelsea extends the contract of Liverpool target Levi Colwill

In spite of interest from other teams, including the Reds, Chelsea is rumored to have made Levi Colwill an offer on a new deal, which could hinder Liverpool’s efforts to sign him.

 

According to the Evening Standard, that is. Colwill has won Liverpool’s appreciation among the several defenders who have been mentioned as potential Anfield acquisitions. Along with Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, the 20-year-old is presently representing England at the European Under-21 Championship. Last season, he displayed his brilliance while on loan at Brighton.

Brighton is eager to secure Colwill’s services permanently and has already seen a club-record bid of £40m rejected. Premier League champions Manchester City have also expressed interest in the young defender. However, it seems that Mauricio Pochettino remains keen on retaining his services for the Blues.

The offer from Chelsea puts Liverpool’s pursuit of Colwill at risk. The Reds have been keen to bolster their defensive options, and Colwill’s potential and versatility have caught their attention.

 

With the defender’s desire to speak to Pochettino as per the same publication, it remains uncertain whether Liverpool will have the opportunity to persuade Colwill to join their ranks.
