As Barcelona battles financial restrictions and tries to bring back Lionel Messi, a transfer opportunity should become clear to Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp.
Even when he left, it seemed inevitable that one day Lionel Messi would return to Barcelona. The two are simply synonymous with one another. And having been made a free agent after leaving Paris Saint Germain, that return could very well be on the cards a lot sooner than expected.
With Messi’s father spotted having a meeting with Barcelona’s Joan Laporta as per Toni Juanmartí, it seems the parties are certainly holding talks over what would be a sensational return for the World Cup winning captain.
But given Barcelona’s financial situation, it’s also a deal that would come with certain ramifications for the rest of the squad. Some sacrifices will have to be made in order to accommodate Messi, not just on the pitch but in terms of the wage structure as well.
A player who might be surplus to requirements as a result is Ansu Fati, who has fallen out of favor with the club’s manager, Xavi, and who Barcelona is willing to allow to depart as per AS.
Fati, who is a Spanish international and still only 20 years old, made waves for Barcelona when he first emerged as a 16-year-old wonderkid. Indeed, he was hailed as an heir to Messi. But then he suffered a long-term injury to his meniscus which saw him miss almost a year of football
In his first season back from that injury during 2021/22, Fati struggled to get going, but he still scored five goals in just 574 minutes and registered an assist as well.
He scored three goals in the last two la Liga as well in what might be a fitting farewell if he does decide to depart for pastures new
