Liverpool set for transfer boost thanks to Michael Edwards as underrated strength proven again

Vincent Kompany may be set to demonstrate once more that Liverpool possesses a secret weapon, which might earn Jürgen Klopp millions in the transfer market.

Even at this early stage, the summer transfer market is very active. Clubs across Europe are already making efforts to entice fresh talent, and as usual, the merry-go-round frequently has both a direct and indirect impact on Liverpool.

Another illustration of this is the most recent move of Vincent Kompany, with the Burnley manager, who led his team back to the Premier League, possibly luring not just one but two ex-Liverpool players in a division that has gotten stronger under Jürgen Klopp.

For years the club’s academy had not been able to produce elite goalkeepers at a top level. But in the last decade that has changed. Caoimhin Kelleher came straight through the club’s ranks and became an outstanding second-choice option at Anfield.

Meanwhile, away from Liverpool more and more of the club’s former goalkeepers are shining at a top level. RB Leipzig’s number one goalkeeper, Péter Gulácsi, is the best example. But he isn’t alone.

One of Kompany’s rumored transfer targets is Lawrence Vigouroux, as per The Athletic, and he spent time at Liverpool’s academy before moving to the Football League and making a successful career for himself.

And he is not the only former Liverpool academy goalkeeper on Kompany’s radar: Kamil Grabara is reportedly also on Burnley’s wanted list, as per The Athletic, with the club set to lose out on first-choice target Bart Verbruggen.

Grabara who, according to Copenhagen Sundays, has also attracted interest from Fiorentina and Inter Milan, spent several years at Liverpool and even featured in pre-season friendlies at senior level. Two years after leaving, it appears that he is likely to be on the move again.

A confident goalkeeper, he caught the eye against Manchester City in the Champions League last season while playing for Copenhagen, equalling a competition record for the most saves made in a single game (13).

The latter’s performance and the level of interest generated in him this summer is not just proof of Klopp’s overlooked strength — the goalkeeping department, with Liverpool continuously having the ability to churn out goalkeepers who can play at a high level — but he could also bring in more profit for the club as well.
