Liverpool might finally solve the $81 million puzzle with a transfer of a player Erling Haaland caliber.

Dominik Szoboszlai, who is likely to sign with Liverpool, was previously compared to Erling Haaland by one of his former coaches, Jesse Marsch.

Liverpool is about to complete its second summertime transfer.

In accordance with the ECHO, Dominik Szoboszlai is currently his route to Merseyside to complete a medical. In an effort to bolster his team in preparation for the upcoming season, Jürgen Klopp is likely to bring the Hungarian international to Anfield to join Alexis MacAllister.

Szoboszlai will enter the game as a very good player who still has a lot of room to grow. He still has time to develop into a fairly complete player on English soil at the age of just 22, though he’s already captain of his national team and he also has experience playing in the Champions League under his belt

The Reds are about to land a real talent, and one who has been compared to Erling Haaland in the past. The two players are completely different in a stylistic sense, but ex-Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch once suggested they are similar when it comes to what they are capable of achieving as individuals

As talent goes, there aren’t many better players that can play [Szoboszlai’s] position. Some are strong, some are technical, some are good tactically, and some can defend well or run a lot,” said Marsch via the ECHO. “However, Dominik is special because he has all of these skills combined. Dominik is just as talented as Erling Haaland.”

Indeed, Haaland proceeded to leave Salzburg for Borussia Dortmund and then Manchester City last summer. In his debut campaign in England this term, he scored a remarkable total of 36 goals in the Premier League, breaking the previous scoring record held by Mohamed Salah.

The Norwegian striker is a genuine superstar, and according to Marsch, Szoboszlai isn’t far off. The pair played together and developed a relationship in Austria, with their individual qualities merging harmoniously on the field. Haaland is rapid, direct and inclined to threaten in behind, whereas Szoboszlai is technical, creative and tends to occupy deeper spaces.

Haaland’s relentless desire to run behind his opponents helped his playmaking teammate, as his penetrative runs stretched defenses and opened up valuable spaces in advanced midfield areas. Szoboszlai profited from that dynamic, as he often roamed into pockets of space in the final third before lifting his head and benefiting from time to assess the landscape ahead of him.

As a duo, Haaland and Szoboszlai prospered, which bodes well for a certain Darwin Núñez at Anfield. The South American striker moved to Merseyside around 12 months ago for an initial fee of $81m (£64m/€75m) but so far, he hasn’t truly exploded in England, scoring nine Premier League goals in his debut campaign.

It is reasonable to suggest that Núñez isn’t quite on Haaland’s level just yet, but the two players share stylistic tendencies. They are both fast, tall, direct and goal-obsessed, with opponents generally struggling to cope with their movements. Núñez is essentially Liverpool’s version of Haaland in many ways.

Next season, supporters can expect Klopp to use his new striker more often. Núñez will hope to make a real step in his development, and the presence of Szoboszlai should aid that process. The RB Leipzig midfielder has the tools to feed him in the final third, and the Reds striker has the qualities to generate space for him to deliver.

Overall, Klopp could have quite the double act on his hands next term if Szoboszlai’s relationship with Haaland is anything to go by.
