Liverpool ‘favorite’ for elite $196m transfer but Jürgen Klopp ‘solution’ should be off-limits

Liverpool is reportedly the ‘favorite’ in a highly surprising transfer race. Jürgen Klopp might have a ‘solution’ to make it work, but FSG should be very wary.

It’s very clear where Liverpool’s priorities lie this summer. The main focus in the transfer market for Jürgen Klopp is the midfield — but that doesn’t mean he is going to pass up on other opportunities if they arise.

Liverpool has always been a club that has that has followed potential targets for many years, and looked to exploit the market where possible. When a long-coveted player becomes available, FSG has often shown it will move quickly in order to follow up on its interest.

They did it with Cody Gakpo after the World Cup this year, and with the club’s new number seven, Luis Díaz, as well. When clubs start to circle for Liverpool’s best targets, the Reds simply spring into action.

So even though the midfield is theiz priority for Liverpool, there is always the potential of conducting different kinds of business as well as long as the transfer window remains open

This is where Victor Osimhen comes into play. Yes, the Napoli forward is an unlikely candidate for Liverpool this summer given his extortionate $196m (£154m/€180m) asking price. That is a lot higher than the kind of fee even Jude Bellingham went for, and Liverpool decided to pull out of that deal.

However, despite the financial logistics, Italian media continues to link Osimhen with a move to Anfield. The latest from the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper (print edition via Shankly Gates) suggests that the Reds are the ‘favorites’ to sign the Nigerian, with important offers set to arrive from the Premier League.

It’s quite an astonishing claim by the newspaper and at first glance it seems almost impossible for Liverpool to pull off given not only the fact that Osimhen is completely out of the club’s price range, but also the fact that the Reds are not desperate for a striker, even for someone with the Nigerian’s world-class ability.

However, what is intriguing is that Liverpool had previously wanted to sign the forward.

When he signed for Napoli, the club’s directors reportedly had to ‘lock him’ away in a hotel room as Liverpool made an approach for his services according to Giandomenico Costi, who worked as an advisor at Napoli.
