Liverpool face £7.5m transfer blackhole with Sadio Mane nearing Cristiano Ronaldo link-up

Liverpool are set to be punished by Sadio Mane’s move to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

Liverpool will lose out on £7.5million once Sadio Mane completes his transfer to Al Nassr, where he will link up with Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia. The Reds icon did not enjoy a successful year in Bayern Munich that was filled with disappointment, injury and controversy as he is set to call it a day on his career in Germany.

The 31-year-old is on the verge of a £30m deal to join Al Nassr and be part of the influx of stars to the Middle East, following Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Jordan Henderson. However, the finer details of Mane’s move to the Bundesliga champions from Liverpool just 12 months ago ensure that Jurgen Klopp suffers in the transfer market.

After six incredible years on Merseyside, Mane wanted a new challenge and he was granted a move to Bayern in what was seen as a major coup by then-boss Julian Nagelsmann. The German side paid an initial £27.5m for the Senegalese star and then a further £7.5m in bonuses depending on the success of the transfer.

The Daily Mail claim that as a result of his imminent departure from Bayern, those bonuses have not been achieved and Liverpool will not get the further £7.5m that they perhaps would have been expecting. It comes as a blow with Klopp and sporting director Jorg Schmadtke still left with business to do this summer.

They are in talks with Southampton over the potential signing of Romeo Lavia after improving their initially rejected bid to £45m, though there is the possibility that Chelsea could attempt to hijack a deal if they cannot reach an agreement with Brighton for Moises Caicedo.

Lavia was a Liverpool target before the exits of Henderson and Fabinho as they joined the Premier League’s exodus to Saudi Arabia alongside Mane, meaning that further midfield additions could follow if they are successful in landing the teenage Belgian sensation.
