Liverpool’s injury list, suspensions and availability ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League fixture at Sheffield United.
Liverpool have their first midweek Premier League match of the season on Wednesday when they travel to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
The first of three consecutive away fixtures for Jurgen Klopp’s team see them pitted against the Blades, who are in dead last after a 5-0 drumming at the hands of Burnley on Saturday.
iverpool, meanwhile, experienced greater fortunes during the weekend just gone, coming from behind in the dying minutes to defeat Fulham 4-3 at Anfield. With Manchester City drawing afterwards it made sure the Reds jumped up to second to keep the pressure on Arsenal.
Problems encountered during the last game were as a result of defensive injuries, and now the boss has more to contend with after the recent win took its toll. Below are the details and return dates for the injured contingent:
He has served two of those – LASK and Fulham – and now will also sit out of the visits to Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Union Saint-Gilloise.
Caoimhin Kelleher was expected to play in the Europa League anyway, so Alisson is technically absent for only three matches.
Expected return date: Manchester United (H), Premier League, December 17
Diogo Jota
Jota was also injured against Man City, though any sense of optimism displayed by Klopp when discussing his first-choice goalkeeper was thrown out of the window when elaborating on Jota’s condition.
Diogo will take a little bit longer, we don’t know exactly how long. We have to see,” the manager said, and with still no official confirmation yet it suggests the forward will be absent until the New Year.
Expected return date: Unconfirmed
Andy Robertson
The bad news continues as Andy Robertson is also expected to only make his return in January at the soonest. His problem has been known about since the international break in October at least, and all necessary steps have been taken.
After dislocating his shoulder with Scotland, he underwent a successful surgery. Last month Robertson revealed: “It’s so far so good; three weeks since my surgery now, so everything is progressing well. I have just got to take it bit by bit and week by week. Everything has went well up to this point, and hopefully, that continues
Thankfully Ibrahima Konate was able to step in having recently come back from his latest fitness problem, though this revolving door of defenders adds a sense of worry heading into the busy festive period.
At full-time Klopp stated: “We lost today Joel and we have obviously no scan yet, but after all you hear and can see that will not be a short one. It’s his knee. Unlucky, but we have to get through this.”
