Boston Celtics player Kristaps Porziņģis delighted in the frigid greeting he got inside Madison Square Garden during Saturday’s 116-102 triumph over the New York Knicks.
After the game, he told reporters, “To be honest, I enjoy it.” “During my tenure in Washington, they declined. I continued to get booed. However, since I joined the Celtics, they have stepped it up a little bit.”
In the win, he contributed 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.
In his postgame remarks, Porziņģis hinted that it has been a while since he was a Knicks player. You could see why fans felt a little hurt after his fairly messy divorce from the team.
Nevertheless, the 7’2″ center was dispatched before the 2019 trade deadline. People appeared to move on, and in that environment, the Knicks’ ascent to the top four spots in the Eastern Conference was helpful.
However, now that he’s a Celtic, supporters have cause to rekindle their animosity at Porziņğis. He’s a direct rival to New York’s postseason hopes now that he’s not playing in a different conference or leading a struggling team.
The Celtics and Knicks, who are ranked first and fourth in the East, respectively, may cross paths after their regular-season series finale on April 11. PorziņĖis could be excited about a seven-game playoff series that would guarantee him two more trips to Madison Square Garden.
