KLOPP’S LIVERPOOL SETS SIGHTS ON EUROPEAN ACE

FEDERICO CHIESA IS VIEWED AS A SUMMER PROSPECT BY LIVERPOOL FC

Federico Chiesa, a forward for Juventus, appears to have been targeted by Liverpool FC as a potential summer acquisition. According to a report in Calciomercato, manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed interest given the fairly reasonable asking price for the Italy international.

CHIESA IS LISTENING

Following Chiesa’s impressive performances at the European Championships, the Reds showed a lot of interest in the Italian forward two summers ago. There were whispers of a Liverpool approach worth £86 million. The Brighton midfielder who won the World Cup has been quickly brought in by the Merseyside club as part of their summer plans. Despite this huge acquisition, Liverpool is still looking to bolster its first team after a disappointing campaign.

FINANCIAL NUANCES AND POTENTIAL BARGAIN

Juventus’ asking price for Chiesa may be significantly lower than it was in 2021, around the region of €35 million-€45m (£30m-38.5m), according to Italian media. This reduction in the asking price is attributed to various factors, with Juventus’ financial predicament being one.

Juventus missed out on the Champions League next season, and instead, they’ll be competing in the Europa Conference League. This change came after an unsuccessful run in The Champions League, during which they lost five of their six group games. Despite boasting the largest wage bill in the division, Juventus finished seventh in the Italian top flight due to a points deduction.

CHIESA’S PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY

Chiesa sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2022, ruling him out for seven months. As a result, he’s been limited to just six Serie A starts over the past 18 months, keen on avoiding further injuries.

Chiesa remains under contract with Juventus through 2025, and no contract renewal seems likely at this point. “I am here working with the international team and our goal in the Nations League, then we will see. I am at Juventus and I am thinking about Juventus,” Chiesa stated earlier this month, during the international break with Italy.

THE NEXT STEP FOR LIVERPOOL FC AND KLOPP

Both Liverpool and Newcastle are reportedly aware of Chiesa’s situation, with Klopp leading the interest on behalf of the Reds.

It’s suggested that Klopp and Liverpool are ready to provide Chiesa with the promise of high wages, a commitment that Juventus is currently unable to matchSince joining Juventus in 2020, Chiesa has managed to notch up 22 goals across 94 appearances for the club. If a move to Liverpool does materialise, Chiesa could be an exciting prospect for Jurgen Klopp and his squad as they look to bolster their lineup for the coming season
