Your Liverpool digest as Kyle Walker compares Manchester City to Manchester United and Jurgen Klopp invests in Germany
Your June 8 morning summary from Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has invested in a German artificial intelligence (AI) sports streaming service.
In Sporttotal AG, a company based in Cologne, the Reds manager has joined a group of investors that includes retired NBA star Dirk Nowitzki as a “significant shareholder.” Nowitzki joined at the same time and will also serve as an advisor to the business.
Sporttotal, which had a turnover of almost €50m for 2022, uses fully automated cameras and AI-powered software to follow action, stream video, add graphic packages and add statistical overlays, with the technology adopted by clubs, coaches and scouts who are provided with real-time statistics and analytics. Highlight clips of games and individual player performance can also be edited using the AI technology
Speaking on his investment via the Sporttotal website, Klopp said: “It’s great to be able to be watching the game of your choice ‘live’, wherever you are. It doesn’t matter if you want to see a game of your child, your friends, your favourite team or if you are a scout who is looking for new talents
But the England international admits City can only regarded in the same category once they claim a first European Cup.
The Reds are the only side to consistently threaten City’s dominance during Pep Guardiola’s tenure, which has seen the moneybags Etihad outfit win the Premier League in five of the last six years.
Liverpool broke up that run by claiming the title in 2020 and twice finished a point behind City in 2018/19 and 2021/22, while also being crowned champions of Europe and the world in 2019
