Josh Allen of the Bills Points What Prevents the Team from Playing in the Super Bowl?
After selecting quarterback Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills have accomplished almost everything save winning a Super Bowl.
The Bills have made five trips to the postseason in the last six years. Three times in the divisional round, once in the AFC title game, and once in the wild-card round, all five have lost before the largest stage of football.
That is despite the fact that Allen, who was formerly and occasionally still is a gunner prone to turnovers, has developed into one of the NFL’s most dangerous quarterbacks. During Super Bowl week, Allen spoke with Sports Illustrated about what Buffalo needs to do to turn things around.
“We maintain that we are near. You know we’re right there? stated Allen. Making one or two more plays is all that is required. We must. It weighs a lot on my shoulders.
When asked about his ambition to defeat future Hall of Fame quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, who have eliminated the Bills from the playoffs three times since Allen’s arrival, Allen played down his desire to do so.
For me, it’s just another game, Allen remarked. “You name it, he’s over there, quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, quarterback Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals—you name it. Who is playing over there is irrelevant. The quarterback vs. quarterback debate consumes us so much time. I’m not acting like him. I’m using that line of defense.
