Johnny Depp is set to direct his highly anticipated biopic on the legendary Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, and the cast is shaping up to be an impressive ensemble. Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio, French star Pierre Niney, and Hollywood icon Al Pacino have been confirmed to star in the film, which promises to be a major highlight of the upcoming Cannes Market.

The film, simply titled *Modigliani*, will mark Depp’s return to the director’s chair for the first time in 25 years since his debut with *The Brave*. Depp has expressed his passion for the project, which will explore the tumultuous life and career of Modigliani, known for his distinctive portraits and tragic life story.

Riccardo Scamarcio, known for his roles in *John Wick: Chapter 2* and *Three Steps Over Heaven*, will take on the role of Modigliani. Pierre Niney, who garnered international acclaim for his portrayal of fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in the biopic *Yves Saint Laurent*, will play Maurice Utrillo, a close friend and fellow artist. Al Pacino, a cinematic legend with a career spanning over five decades, will portray Léopold Zborowski, the Polish art dealer who played a significant role in Modigliani’s life and career.

In addition to directing, Depp will also produce the film through his production company IN.2, alongside Barry Navidi and IN.2 partner Andrea Iervolino. The script, based on a play by Dennis McIntyre and adapted by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, delves into a pivotal 48-hour period in Modigliani’s life, during which he was on the run from the police and confronted the challenges and triumphs that defined his artistic legacy.

Depp shared his excitement about the project in a statement: “The story of Modigliani’s life is one that I’m immensely honored and thrilled to bring to the screen. It’s a story of resilience, creativity, and the undeniable human spirit. With such a talented cast, we’re set to capture the essence of his genius and the world he inhabited.”

The announcement of the cast comes just ahead of the Cannes Market, where The Veterans, the sales company behind the project, will launch international sales. With Cannes being a major hub for film deals, the presence of *Modigliani* is expected to generate significant interest from distributors and investors.

The film is set to begin shooting in the fall, with locations in France and Italy, providing an authentic backdrop to the early 20th-century Parisian art scene that Modigliani was a part of. The production aims to capture the bohemian lifestyle and the vibrant, often tumultuous world of the artists who lived and worked alongside Modigliani.

Al Pacino’s involvement adds a layer of prestige to the film, as he continues to take on challenging and diverse roles. His portrayal of Zborowski is highly anticipated, given his ability to bring depth and complexity to his characters.

With Johnny Depp at the helm and a stellar cast in place, *Modigliani* is shaping up to be a compelling biopic that will shed light on the life of one of the most enigmatic and influential artists of the 20th century. As the film prepares to go to market at Cannes, industry insiders are eager to see how this ambitious project will unfold.
