In his Sunday afternoon Tour Championship match, John Higgins displayed a certain level of class, as the Wizard of Wishaw called a foul on himself. At the Manchester event, Higgins was competing against Mark Allen, with a total prize fund of £500,000 up for grabs for winning players.
Ranking third among players with the most ranking titles is the Scot Higgins, who is regarded as one of the greatest snooker players of all time. His current total is 31, but he might raise it to 32 if he wins the Tour Championship this week.
But in the match against Allen in the round of 16, Higgins purposefully hurt his own prospects of victory by telling the referee that he had committed a foul. Higgins was playing a safety shot when he unintentionally struck the white ball twice in the fifth frame.
It took some time for the referee to determine that Higgins had struck the white ball twice, therefore it was challenging to call a foul. That didn’t matter, though, because Higgins was the first to acknowledge his mistakes, and the audience appreciated his candor by applauding him.
Wilson proceeded to take the fifth, sixth, and seventh frames, putting himself ahead 5-2 going into the last frame of the session. Before the interruption, Selby was at least able to maintain some hope, as the world No. 5 took the eighth frame to reduce the deficit and maintain prospects of advancement.
