I’ve always been told’: £50m player now prefers to play for another PL side instead of Chelsea – journalist

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Nottingham Forest player Brennan Johnson is more likely to join another Premier League side instead of Chelsea.

He told GiveMeSport that the forward would instead prefer a move to London rivals Tottenham, who have started the season in a promising way.

The highly-promising Johnson emerged as a shock candidate for Chelsea who are considering adding to their attacking ranks before the window ends.

Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear in interviews and press conferences that he is hoping the club add a creative threat in the next week or so.

With Mohamed Kudus making his move to West Ham United, options are beginning to become limited in that position.

This is where Johnson cropped up as a candidate. His side are reportedly holding out for a fee around £50m.

Johnson prefers Spurs to Chelsea

Jacobs has claimed that while Chelsea have considered a move for the Wales international, he would actually prefer to play his football in North London.

He said: “I think the preference of the player would be Spurs. That’s what I’ve always been told, so we now wait and see how it plays out.

“On the Chelsea side, I don’t think that the interest can be disputed, but they’re not active in terms of a club-to-club conversation or even on the player side at this point.

But, as far as Brennan Johnson is concerned, I think Spurs is more likely than Chelsea. We have to now see whether Ange Postecoglou feels that he would fit in.”

If Chelsea are still to add in that position, it now looks likely they will look to France to try and do so.

Interest has seemed to go cold in recent weeks though in Rayan Cherki.
