Nearly two years after injuring her neck in a car accident, Rylee Foster’s career with Liverpool has come to an end. Her story is an inspiration.
In 2021, just a few days after helping Liverpool Women win a penalty shootout, the Canadian was in a fatal automobile accident while visiting friends in Finland.
Foster suffered a broken neck, two lower back fractures, a broken cheekbone, a misaligned jaw, a partially torn MCL in the knee, a partially torn quadricep tendon, and a subdural hemorrhage in the back of her brain as a result of being thrown through the windscreen during the collision.
She needed a halo fixation device, which was screwed into her skull four times, as part of her lengthy but amazing rehabilitation.
The 24-year-old’s ability to return to the field had not been guaranteed, but she will make an effort to do so – but not with Liverpool.
Foster has stated Liverpool declined to exercise the option of a one-year extension, and the club has confirmed she will leave when her contract expires in June.
Foster, who has the tattoo “You’ll Never Walk Alone” on her arm, sent an emotional statement on social media in response to the news, thanking everyone for helping her realize a “childhood dream.”
Foster wrote, “It comes with enormous anguish and regret to be leaving the club. It should go without saying that, given the option, I would pursue a career here.
Unfortunately, the club has decided not to activate my one-year extension, soBeing a Red was the fulfillment of a childhood ambition for me; I prayed, dreamed, and toiled endlessly to get here.
“The next steps for me are very positive,” Foster concluded. I’m ready to play once more and to prove my value to the following club on my journey by showcasing my best self.
won’t allow my harm to define me.
Foster’s Liverpool career is over, but she will continue to motivate people with her spirit since she proved that despite numerous injuries, they didn’t limit or define her.
Best of luck to you in the future, Rylee!
