In order to avoid competing in the World Snooker Championship qualifiers, Stephen Hendry
According to Stephen Hendry, he will not participate in the World Snooker Championship qualifying this year, which means he will conclude the professional season without a victory.
In the 2020–21 season, the seven-time world champion made a comeback to the main tour by accepting a two-year tour card, which was extended again at the beginning of the 2022–23 season.
In the first two years of the comeback, there were several noteworthy victories: in the 2021 World Championship qualification round, he defeated Jimmy White, and the next season, he defeated Michael White and Chris Wakelin.
Both of the most recent seasons, nevertheless, have been unsuccessful; from four games in the previous season to five in the current one, there have been no victories.
The 55-year-old will not be playing any more this season after leaving a remark on Fergal O’Brien’s Instagram before the World Championship qualifying round.
Good luck, Fergal. I’m glad I’m not going in. Hendry posted on Twitter.
In the WST Snooker Club podcast, he clarified, saying, “I haven’t entered the World qualifying this year.”
For two reasons: first, it begins the day following the conclusion of the Tour Championship. Due to my work for TV all week, I haven’t had much opportunity to practice, which is something I haven’t really done.
This year, I’m not going to bother. I decided not to participate this year since there are a lot of things to do between the Tour Championship and the World Championship.
“Any current professional players who do not enter the tournament will be replaced from the 2023 Q School Order of Merit,” the WPBSA said earlier this month.
When this season ends, Hendry’s current two-year invitational tour card will expire. It remains to be seen if he will receive another offer of one, if one is extended, and whether he will accept it.
