In addition to securing exclusive sneaker bragging rights, Malachi Moreno’s buzzer-beater sealed a 15–12 Blue Team triumph.
Mark Pope added unreleased Kobe 8 Venice Beach shoes as an extra incentive for the winning team at Tuesday’s Kentucky Wildcats summer workouts. Malachi Moreno gave his squad the victory in spectacular fashion.
In the final seconds of practice, with the score tied at 12, Collin Chandler fired a shot that clattered off the front of the hoop. With just 0.1 seconds left, Moreno grabbed the rebound as time was almost up and swung a full-court heave that went in as the buzzer sounded, giving the Blue Team an exciting 15–12 victory. And the party had begun. There was more to the victory than just the ability to gloat. To add even more flair to the occasion, Blue Team players received the unreleased Kobe 8 “Venice Beach” sneakers as a treat. Braydon Hawthorne, Trent Noah, Otega Oweh, Denzel Aberdeen, Reece Potter, and Jayden Quaintance joined Moreno in the victory, and they weren’t hiding their joy.
As the blue team was given their new trainers, Moreno remarked, “Just for that shot, baby.” Later, in the hallway, he grinned and continued, “We got the win today, so we got the early ‘Venice Beach’ Kobe Eights, and this is what winners get.” Be a winner, then. This scrimmage suggests that the new team from Kentucky will be a lot of fun to watch in the coming season.
